Use your logical and creative preferences

What are your logical and creative preferences? Click on the highlighted text to see the comments about left and right brain preferences.

Do you have a left brain preference or right brain preference?

Left brain thinking tips
  • You thrive on logical and sequential, analytical techniques and topics.
  • To balance your logical preference, you can ask yourself a range of feeling questions and intuitive questions, if you need to get a broader perspective.
  • When attempting a writing task, use the outline mode in Word to sequence and organise your ideas.
  • Organise and plan any assignment work before starting.
  • You may also thrive on 'To Do' Lists with tick boxes.
Right brain thinking tips
  • You thrive on intuitive, creative activity and processing.
  • When approaching a topic, you may tend to think creatively and may need a creative angle before you can start a task. Find that angle!
  • You may also find that you have a multiplicity of ideas firing away! A useful strategy is to get your ideas down as quickly as possible and organise and edit them later.
  • You may find keeping a visual drawing book with you very useful to record your ideas and map these out.
  • Use inspirational motivators to keep you focused on a task.
  • Use colour and images if appropriate in your work.
  • To balance your creative preference, look at the logical connectors in your work and explore logical questions and sensing questions for a topic to cover a range of perspectives.
