Alternative Arrangements for Assessments (AAAs)

Students enrolled in award courses at Monash and registered with the DLU may be eligible to receive Alternative Arrangements for Assessment opens in a new window (AAAs). If you have a disability or long-term medical condition and require AAAs, contact the Disability Liaison Unit opens in a new window as soon as possible. The earlier the better! You can discuss your specific exam and assessment requirements with them.

Arrangements are based on documentation provided by a qualified professional who has comprehensive training and experience in the relevant field of health/disability (see DLU documentation guidelines).

AAAs may include variation in the structure, format, duration or venue of an examination. Typical accommodations include:

  • extra writing time in examinations,
  • rest breaks,
  • smaller venues,
  • use of assistive technology or ergonomic furniture,
  • papers or responses in alternative formats (braille, large print, audio, disk),
  • use of a scribe, reader or AUSLAN Sign Language Interpreters,
  • examinations at different times or on different days.

Students are advised to contact the Disability Liaison Unit opens in a new window directly should they need to discuss their AAAs or the AAA process.
