Wh - questions

Asking yourself wh- questions about your topic can help you think through a range of possibilities.

What - Why - When

How - Where - Who

Add 'which' and 'to what extent', and you're on your way to generating great ideas!

This adaptation of a Rudyard Kipling poem Opens in a new window can be a good way of remembering the wh- words:

I have six friends that serve me true
Their names are What and Why and When
and How and Where and Who.

There's more on how to how to use the Kipling methodOpens in a new window on the Creating MindsOpens in a new window site.

I just find that those wh-questions are life savers for when I just go blank on something. They seem to help jolt me back into the topic and at least I can start with some ideas before I go on to refine my research.
