Using a multi-sensory approach

Here are some more ways to make the session inclusive by using a multi-sensory approach.

Pictorial

Use graphics - to show sequences, relationships, flow, counter arguments, how they work.

Figurative

Use analogies - do your students know what an analogy is and why you use it? Point out (and explain) each time you use one.

Experiential

Draw on your audiences' own experiences, for example, discussing group dynamics in Management - who has worked in a group - what happened?

Theoretical

Do your students know what a theory is? Explain what this means before explaining a theory.

Emotional

Be excited and passionate about what you teach. This can help to modulate your voice and keep students interested and engaged.

Personal

Use students to demonstrate examples which can help to keep them engaged and involved. For example: You are the manager of a firm, and this person sitting next to you is your shop floor manager, and he has told you..."
