Resources outside Monash

Here are brief outlines of the resources that are available at Monash University for both staff and students with learning disabilities or mental health issues. The information is also applicable to all other non-disabled students and staff.

Creating Accessible Teaching and Support (CATS) opens in a new window
A site designed to assist academics, senior administrators, service managers and disability practitioners in creating equitable access for students with disabilities.
Australian Disability Clearinghouse on Education and Training (ADCET) opens in a new window
ADCET (the Australian Disability Clearinghouse on Education and Training) provides a large range of information on inclusive teaching and assessment, assistive technology, legislation and policy, and resources for practitioners.
Strategies for Creating Inclusive Programmes of Study (SCIPS) opens in a new window
The SCIPS site has been created for teachers and trainers and offers a range of strategies for promoting inclusive teaching, learning and assessment.<
DEMOS project opens in a new window
The DEMOS project has developed an online learning package aimed specifically at academic staff working with disabled students in higher education. The site has not been updated since 2003 so some of the links may be broken.
Learning support for disabled students undertaking fieldwork and related activities opens in a new window
This is a site developed by the Geography Discipline Network based at the University of Gloucester, UK. The resources available are part of the Network's 'Improving provision for disabled students' initiative'. In particular the site provides learning support for students with disabilities who are required to do fieldwork as part of their degree programme.
Inclusive teaching practice - University of Tasmania opens in a new window
UTas provides more examples of inclusive teaching practices. In addition, there are links to both national and international web resources. You can also download a checklist which is designed to help you identify barriers and biases in course materials and activities.

The Mental Health Council of Australia represents and promotes the interests of the Australian mental health sector.
Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) opens in a new window
The Mental Health First Aid site provides information about mental health first aid programmes which are conducted in all states and territories of Australia.

The Australian Government community portal provides information on a range of topics including disabilities, crisis, law and health.
beyondblue opens in a new window
'beyondblue' is a national independent not-for-profit organisation, which is working to address issues associated with depression, anxiety and related substance misuse disorders in Australia.
