Situate your work

Where does your proposed work fit within the existing literature and work in the discipline?

As you read in the area you will seek to determine how your proposed work will be located within the existing work in the discipline.

How does your research relate to previous and current studies, to other findings and thinking in the discipline? Through understanding the literature you will appreciate the value, uniqueness and contribution of your own work.

It is important to ascertain that your particular study or focus has not been addressed in earlier work and that there is a gap in knowledge. Therefore you need to read carefully to determine where your research will fit and how your work will fill the existing gap and become relevant within the discipline.
