Familiarising students with your voice

Most teaching staff have their photo on the web somewhere, whether in their Departmental website or on their own homepage. As an extension of this idea, you can also make it possible for students to familiarise themselves with your accent and your way of speaking, to help their comprehension in your classes.

With current technology it is a fairly simple matter to record (audio or video) a short self-introduction - say, up to 5 minutes long - as an MP3 and/or MPEG file. Situate this next to your photo on MUSO sites, and provide a transcript. This could be an introduction to yourself, your research and your teaching; you might also want to record a mini-lecture, again with transcript, introducing each course you teach.

Monash University Lectures Online (MULO) Opens in a new window is a recorded lecture service provided by Monash University Library. It delivers digital audio recordings of lectures to Monash University students via the internet. Recordings are available on the internet as streaming audio within minutes of the scheduled conclusion of a lecture. The service extends across a number of Monash faculties and campuses. Lectures are normally available for the duration of the semester in which a unit is held. Utilise this service to record your lectures, and alert students to the existence of these recordings in your lecture and on your MUSO site.
