Lyn Torres, Information Research Skills Manager, and Leanne McCann, Learning Skills Manager, received this award as the key initiators of the Research Skill Development (RSD) framework (Willison and O'Regan, 2006) at Monash University. RSD informed curricula is now a key University-wide educational priority encouraged through library-faculty collaboration. The RSD framework was included in the Monash University Education Plan, 2011-2015 as a key educational priority.
Learning Skills Manager Leanne McCann and Information Research Skills Manager Lynette Torres with Glen Croy and Susan Mayson from the Department of Management were awarded a Dean's Award for Excellence in Teaching. They used an innovative implementation of the RSD Framework, as a continuation of their involvement in an Australian Learning and Teaching Council grant. The team's approach to assessment and assessment feedback has improved the students' learning experience and motivation. This unique approach to developing students' skills has been extended to other faculties as a result of the work done in Business and Economics.
The Library’s Business and Economics team‘s award reflects the team’s efforts since 2008 to integrate teaching of information research and learning skills into all six Foundation Year units in the Bachelor of Business program at Caulfield Campus. The aim of the program is to ensure that students progressing through the course have the appropriate academic skills to succeed.
The Library’s Law Faculty team won the award for their work undertaken over a number years to develop undergraduate students’ legal research information and communication skills within the Bachelor of Laws curriculum. The team developed two core units which combine face-to-face and online learning components and demonstrated a commitment to student-centred teaching and continuous improvement.
Learning Skills Adviser Veronica Png, learning skills adviser, and Faculty of Business and Economics staff member Dr Aldonio Ferreira were awarded for their contribution to the student learning experience through their Group Work and Group Presentation Skills collaboration.
