If you don't have a card

Southern Health Library is independent of Monash University Library and the two libraries work in cooperation. The library contributes to the learning, teaching and research activities of staff and students based at Southern Health sites. In addition to general medicine and surgery, collection strengths are

  • evidence-based medicine and health evaluation human
  • reproduction and development
  • obstetrics and gynaecology paediatrics
  • psychological medicine.

The library also works with the staff and students in affiliated institutes, ie the Monash Medical Centre, the Monash Institute of Health Services Research (restricted access), the Monash Institute of Medical Research and Prince Henry's Institute.

Borrowing from Southern Health Library

Monash University staff, Honorary staff and postgraduate students (Masters and Doctorates only) can borrow from Southern Health Library, as can the following groups of Monash students:

  • site-based Monash University Graduate Diploma and Honours' students site-based Monash University MBBS students
  • site-based Monash University Bachelor of Nutrition and Dietetics students (from 2nd year)
  • while enrolled in a site-based subject.

To borrow, you need a current Monash University staff or student ID card and to register at the Southern Health Library desk.

Southern Health Libraries (now Monash Health Libraries) has a new web catalogue. The Southern Health catalogue can be searched online. 

Within the Southern Health Library collection there are some Monash Library books for Monash student use. They can be found in Search. Other Monash University staff and students or CAVAL card holders can borrow only this Monash-owned material by making a Loans request through Search. Requested items can be picked up at a Monash University branch library or at the Ian Potter Library (Alfred).

Some items may not be available for intercampus loan, eg videos in the Southern Health libraries are not available for intercampus loan. Check availability in the Southern Health catalogue as the Loan status in Search may not be accurate and item may not be available on the shelves.

Photocopying at Southern Health Library

Purchase a non-rechargeable photocopy card of the following values: $2, $5 or $10. Copying is 10c per copy. The same card can be used at all Southern Health libraries
