If you don't have a card

Alfred Health Libraries are independent of Monash University Library and have a Library Services Agreement that facilitates cooperation. The Alfred Health Libraries contribute to the learning, teaching and research activities of staff and students based at the Alfred campus, Caulfield Hospital and Sandringham Hospital or on clinical or practical placement at these institutions. In addition to general medicine and surgery, the library’s collection strengths are immunology, epidemiology and preventive medicine.

The library also works with staff and students based in the other AMREP partner institutions, ie the Alfred Hospital, the Baker IDI Heart and Diabetes Institute and the Burnet Institute.

Borrowing from Alfred Health Libraries

Monash staff and students can borrow from Alfred Health Libraries while on clinical placements, practical placements or enrolled in one or more subjects affiliated with a Monash University Department based at Alfred Health. You need a current Monash University staff or student ID card and to register at the Ian Potter Library desk to be able to borrow.

Amongst the Ian Potter Library (Alfred) library collection there are some Monash University Library books for Monash student use. They can be found in Search. Other Monash University staff and students or CAVAL card holders can borrow only this Monash-owned material in person or by making a Loan request through Search.  Requested items can be picked up at a Monash University branch library or at the Ian Potter Library.  Some items may not be available for intercampus loan if they have been placed in the short loan section.

The Ian Potter Library (Alfred) has its own collection and loans system. This means that the loan status (ie availability) shown in Search may not always be accurate and the item may not be available on the shelves.

The Ian Potter Library catalogue is accessible only via the Alfred Health intranet.

Photocopying at Alfred Health Libraries

Photocopying is available at The Ian Potter Library only and requires purchase of a $1 copy card ($1) and adding of credit (10c per copy) before copying.
