Collection strengths
We manage a comprehensive collection, including one of the most extensive electronic collections in the world.
First established in 1961, Monash University Library’s collections have grown to become one of the largest in Australia and now include over four million items, with:
Our collections support the range of teaching and research directions of the faculties and research centres of Monash University.
Our extensive collection of scientific and other academic journals is world-class and growing. The Library has purchased packages of electronic research journals and books from all of the major publishers in science, engineering, technology and medicine.
As well as providing course-related material, the Library is providing scholarly resources in the same areas that most undergraduates are studying.
We are also proud to maintain a number of special collections of national and international significance.
The physical collection is distributed among the eight branch libraries but nearly all material at any branch can be easily accessed on request by any Australian-based student or staff member from any other branch. The Library also makes use of an off-campus store for lesser-used materials and these too can be retrieved and borrowed from any branch on request.
