Cathrine Harboe-Ree, University Librarian

Cathrine Harboe-Ree was appointed as the University Librarian at Monash University in February 2002. She is responsible for the overall management of the libraries across the six Victorian campuses, and provides advice to the libraries at the Monash Sunway (Malaysia) and South Africa campuses.

Professional background

Ms Harboe-Ree is currently the President of the Council of Australian University Librarians (2009 - ) and a member of the Australian National Data Service (ANDS) Steering Committee, representing Monash University which is the lead agency. She has been a member of the joint ministerial Australian eResearch Coordinating Committee and the Australian eResearch Infrastructure Council (AeRIC), and was the Chair of the Commonwealth Government funded institutional repository project, ARROW, from its inception to its completion (2002-2008). She has established and supervised the growth of Monash University Publishing, an innovative open-access electronic press, and leads university-wide research data management policy, planning and coordination. She is a member of the Editorial Board of Australian Academic & Research Libraries and was a member of the Global Research Library 2020 2009 Programming Committee.

Professional interests

Ms Harboe-Ree is a frequent presenter, particularly on the topics of research data management and the future of libraries. She has a commitment to the future of the profession and participates in a number of mentoring and training initiatives, including as a faculty member of the Australasian CAUDIT EduCause Institute from 2006-2009, as a mentor in the Aurora Institute for a number of years and in the University’s Women’s Mentoring Program.
