What's your role here at Monash Uni?
I’m a member of the teaching and research staff in the Faculty of Law. I teach Undergraduates and I publish legal theoretical research.
How long have you been working at Monash Uni?
I started as a sessional ten years ago and got tenure in 2004, so six years as a permanent member of academic staff.
What did you do before coming to Monash Uni?
I was a researcher for a parliamentary committee at the Victorian Parliament working on federal state relations as well as other constitutional issues.
Why did you come to Monash to work?
I was an undergraduate philosophy student and did graduate work in philosophy where I became interested in legal theory and more practical applications. I guess as a result of that I completed a doctorate here at the law faculty.
How has Monash supported your teaching / research work?
I came here particularly to work with Professor Jeff Goldsworthy who is a leading constitutional and legal theorist in Australia. He’s been a very supportive mentor. Overall the faculty has a very collegiate environment. Law faculties have a reputation of being a bit ruthless and cutthroat, but that’s not the case of the faculty here at Monash. It’s very supportive in that way
Are there any facilities / resources you think having access to sets Monash Uni apart from other employers?
My sort of research is mostly library-based research, so the law library here is very good; one of the best in Australia.
Are there any benefits you think Monash offers that sets us apart from other employers?
I know the Parental Leave is a very good. Overall it’s a good environment and in my field it’s very supportive and collegiate.
Tell us one thing that people wouldn't normally know about you.
Some people might not know that I play the guitar.
