Adopt as your fundamental creed that you will equip yourself for life, Not solely for your own benefit but that of the whole community
Sir John Monash
There's a world where the future is yours to create.
A world where over 7,000 staff and 55,000 students from more than 130 countries come together as one community.
Professor Richard Larkins, Vice Chancellor and President of Monash University: " A reason Monash is so well known and so well regarded around the world is because of this unique international and global focus that we have. It's a world where medical research is leading the way."
Professor Richard Boyd, Monash Immunology and Stem Cell Laboratories: "Our students are seeing a brand new horizon of stem sell based or cell based therapies, particularly stem cells. They've never seen the amount of enthusiasm and money that has been put into development of a new therapy. Research funding has increased by over $100 million in the last 5 years." [Funding increase from 2002]
Bill Charman, Director, Monash Institute, Of Pharmaceutical Sciences: "What has to be special about us is how we work, how we work together and the quality of our thinking, and the breath of skills that we can bring to bear to address major issues that are facing not only Australia, not only our region of the world, but indeed our planet."
Prof Edwina Cornish, Deputy Vice Chancellor for Research: "Our research is very international, so even though you might be a researcher in Australia, you're part of an international community that's pushing back those frontiers of knowledge. It's a great privilege, it's terribly exciting and at the end of the day, enormously personally rewarding."
It's a world at the heart of Melbourne 's research, population and industry base.
A world where international borders are no longer boundaries.
Hugh Evans, Monash Student, founder of The Oaktree Foundation and 2004 Young Australian of the Year: "Not only does Monash University provide young Australians with access to education, it also educates young South Africans, young people from Malaysia, young people across Europe and all around the world."
Professor Richard Larkins: "We have two international campuses, one in Malaysia , in Kuala Lumpur which now has 3,300 students, it has a medical school and six other faculties represented. Our second international campus is in Johannesburg . It's younger but is growing very rapidly. It has over 1,700 students coming from all the southern African countries who are an inspiring group of students who will come to be the leaders of those countries into the future. So both campuses are very exciting and performing extremely well. We are very proud of them."
There's a world where students feel connected long after they've left.
Dr Susan Lim, Monash Graduate and world renowned surgeon who conducted the first successful liver transplant in Asia: "When I arrived at Monash it was like a breath of fresh air. The open campus, the diverse college student body, and the friendships and most of all, the excellent learning environment, it's very stimulating."
John Bertrand, Monash Graduate and winner of the Americas Cup: "The quality of the people within the institution, the academia, the level, the research and development, that's absolutely world class. It's something I'm very proud of now.
Home to...the $207 million Australian Sychrotron"
Allyson Croxford, Monash Phd Student: "Monash and the Synchatron together, great team, I think, great thing to have quite so close together and so accessible being at Monash."
One of the world's largest aerodynamic wind tunnels. Australia's largest accident research centre. It's a world where imaginations are encouraged to run wild.
Tom Chandler, 3D Modelling lecturer: "What we're doing is we're using all these technologies to try and look at new ways of, I guess, seeing history, or bringing history back to life. There's a world where a diverse teaching and research expertise touches the lives of thousands."
Professor Richard Larkins: "The status of the University, what's achieved in research, the standing it has in the world after only 50 years has been an absolutely remarkable achievement in its own right. But over and above that I think the fact that it has been able to reach out to a diversity of students, it's had such a strong international presence, has been something quite remarkable for a research intensive university."
Monash law graduates hold the four most senior judicial positions in the Victorian legal system.
Economist Magazine has rated Monash's Master of Business Administration course second in the world for personal development and educational experience
Professor Nadia Rosenthal, Director, Australian Regenerative Medicine Institute: "I think that having the breadth of expertise and disciplines that a university has at its fingertips, especially a premier university like Monash is a very good incentive for attracting students. Students want to be able to feel that they can get education in any area where they feel they need it."
There's a world where our thinking can impact every aspect of life
Professor Richard Larkins: "We want to prepare students of Monash University to be global citizens, ready to work and live in a world where national boundaries will be less and less important."
The world is our campus and you can be a part of it.
