Coming to Monash as an exchange student

Who can come to Monash on exchange?

  • Your home university must have an student exchange agreement with Monash
  • Monash has exchange agreements with over 115 universities worldwide
  • Please check our list of exchange partner universities
  • Your home university must approve your plan to study at Monash and nominate you to Monash as an exchange student

How long is an exchange?

  • You can come to Monash for one or two semesters

Are my studies credited to my degree?

  • Your home university must determine whether you receive credit towards your home degree for study you do at Monash.
  • This decision will usually be based on the equivalence between the courses in your home degree and the courses you study at Monash.
  • You will be enrolled as a non-award student at Monash so you will receive an official transcript but you will not receive a Monash degree.

How much will it cost to come to Monash on exchange?

  • There are no extra tuition fees at Monash for exchange students (tuition fees are paid to your home university)
  • You will pay additional fees for compulsory insurances and visas - see Fees, scholarships and living costs for details
  • You will need to pay for all your travel and living costs

Please note: Monash does not provide scholarships or financial assistance for incoming exchange students. Some countries provide assistance for their students to study overseas, and other externally-funded or Australian government scholarships could be relevant to you.

How do you apply to come to Monash on exchange?

  • See the International Office, Study Abroad Office or the equivalent at your home university
  • You must apply through your home university and not directly to Monash

Please note: Do not apply online via the international students section of the Monash website. This is for fee paying students applying for full degrees at Monash only.

What does the Monash Abroad Office offer you?

The Monash Abroad Office provides:

  • dedicated support for exchange and study abroad students while at Monash
  • assistance with on-campus accommodation
  • free airport transfer on arrival
  • an orientation program for exchange and study abroad students
  • excursions and social events
  • 24-hour emergency telephone service for students and your parents
