On-Campus Accommodation

University owned and operated accommodation is available on all Monash campuses in Australia, except Parkville, and in Malaysia and South Africa.

Monash Abroad has a special arrangement with Monash Residential Services which means that exchange and study abroad students are given priority for accommodation at the Clayton campus.  Students who complete the on-campus accommodation section of the Monash Abroad application form and submit it to Monash Abroad by the due date will generally receive a place, although this is not guaranteed.

Accommodation at the other campuses is subject to availability but is usually available for all exchange and study abroad students commencing in either semester, except at Caulfield where on-campus accommodation is limited in both semesters.

All Monash halls of residence provide single bedrooms with shared bathrooms, kitchens and lounge rooms.

All accommodation is co-ed (but all students have single rooms).  The only exception is a small group of group of single sex apartments at the Caulfield but this cannot be guaranteed.

Students who want to be accommodated together may request this but it is Monash policy to have a mix of students in each hall of residence to achieve a balance of Australian and international students, and junior and senior students.  Students are advised of their room allocation before arrival.

How to apply

  1. Students must complete the accommodation section of the Monash Abroad application and make sure your application reaches Monash Abroad by the due date.
  2. Students will receive a separate offer of accommodation. They must pay the required deposit online once they receive the offer and must accept the offer by the due date, generally about 6 weeks before the start of each semester.
  3. The deposit fee is non-refundable.

Note:  Exchange and study abroad students must apply to Monash Abroad for on-campus accommodation and must not apply directly to Monash Residential Services.

Cost

In order to make the accommodation guarantee possible, exchange and study abroad students are charged for a minimum stay of 20 weeks per semester. No refund is possible for students who stay less than 20 weeks.  This period begins shortly before the Monash Abroad orientation and finishes just after the end of the exam period.

Students may be able to extend their stay before or after semester, subject to the availability of rooms.  Rooms are usually available before the start of semester 1 and after the end of semester 2 through the summer holiday period, but not between semesters 1 and 2.  Students who want to extend their stay need to apply directly to Monash Residential Services and will be charged a nightly rate.

Room charges include all utilities, except at Caulfield where there is a separate charge for electricity & telephone if you choose to connect one in your bedroom.  The free internet quota provided to all Monash students may be used at the halls of residence.
