||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
In addition to its six Australian campuses, Monash has campuses in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and Johannesburg, South Africa. Monash was the first foreign university invited to establish a campus in Malaysia and now the campus has a thriving student population of more than 3,800. Monash South Africa was established in 2001 and draws students from across Africa and beyond. The campus is expected to enrol more than 2,400 students in 2008. The University also has a centre in Prato, Italy, used as a base to engage closely with European research centres and also to provide the opportunity for experience abroad as part of undergraduate programs. International alliancesStrategic partnerships with the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology Bombay and others currently under negotiation with considerable partners in China and North America will ensure that Monash University has a physical research presence on five continents. Each partnership will establish leverage off Monash research capabilities to benefit both the host nation and Australia. International studentsMonash is an acknowledged leader in education of international students. The international student experience is vital to Monash life -- both in terms of the number of students who leave Australia to study abroad, and those from abroad who come to Australia. More than 31 per cent of Monash students are international and because the University is Australia's largest, with more than 58,000 students, Monash has more international students than any other Australian university. The quality of the international student experience is fundamental to the University's success. International staffMonash actively recruits talented staff from around the world and currently employs more than 6,590 staff worldwide. International curriculumMonash has consciously developed curricula to prepare graduates for the global workforce, or for further study. Innovative programs such as the Bachelor of Arts (Global) combine a specialised global curriculum with the opportunity to spend a semester or more studying at Monash's global campuses and partner institutions abroad. International alumniThe University has established an alumni network of 220,000 graduates, with many working in leadership positions around the world. If Australia is to be a player in the knowledge economy of the 21st Century, Monash University has a clear role in leading engagement with the rest of the world in true partnerships, with a clear physical presence in a number of strategic offshore locations.
