FAQ's3. Full time study1. What are the approved circumstances when a student may be given permission to enrol in 18 credit points?
Other exceptions may be given faculty approval on a case-by-case basis. 2. Are there any circumstances when a student may be given approval to enroll in less than the minimum study load? The only exception to the minimum study load policy is where, in order to complete a course of study, the remaining/required unit(s) do not constitute a full time load. For an outline of the Monash full time policy, see: 3. Can a student given credit just choose to enrol in 3-subjects/75% load per semester? No - the student must still enroll in a 100% load unless subjects not available. The general rule is that students are expected to be enrolled in 24 credit points per semester. Students who have been granted credit will be permitted to enrol in 18 credit points in any one semester if subject availability or course progression rules do not allow an enrolment in a full 24 credit points 4. If credit is granted, for what period of time should the ECOE be issued for? The period should be the registered duration of course less any full semester credit availability after taking into account need to maintain a minimum 18 credit enrolment in every semester. Students' courses must be structured, and students enrolled, such that, apart from the need to repeat units, the course will be completed within the registered course duration. 5. Can a student facing academic difficulty be approved to enroll in less than 18 credit points per semester No. 6. Can a student enrol in a 75% load for semester 1 and catch up the remaining units over summer? No, unless covered by specific written approval of the faculty related to academic difficulty. The general rule is that students are expected to be enrolled in 24 credit points per semester. Students enrolling in summer school must maintain an 18-credit point enrolment in each semester. 7. Can a faculty recommend at a 'show cause' hearing that students enroll in a part time load before continuing with FT study? No. An overseas student may not be enrolled part-time in order to repeat a prerequisite unit mid-course that is necessary for them to continue their studies. In these circumstances, a student should repeat the prerequisite unit together with other units so that they are undertaking a full-time load. (Linda Laker, DEST letter to Providers, 2/7/02.)
