Welcome Centre

The Welcome Centre is a student friendly space that provides a point of welcome for all new students. The centre provides an opportunity for students to begin building a social network with their peers as well as absorbing the mass of information provided during orientation. The centre is run by friendly staff and student volunteers and is equipped with couches, DVDs, services information, free tea and coffee. The Centre opens on weekends leading up to the Orientation week and specified times during registration and Orientation. For more information email ISS.

Orientation Program

The ISS's tailor made Orientation Program assists students to learn everything you need to know about being an international student at Monash.  Learn about student visas, public transport, accommodation and other support services offered at Monash University.  The Orientation Program includes the opportunity for students to meet other students while visiting Melbourne and Victorian attractions. For more information email ISS.

Student Mentor Program

The ISS has a Student Mentor Program.  We are looking for student mentors who are interested in assisting new international students to settle in to their studies who may be feeling isolated or lonely.  Mentors can be local or international students. We are also looking for new international students who would like to be paired up with and older student to help them adjust to life at Monash.  For more information, see the Peer Mentor website.

Late Arrival/Orientation Program

The Late Arrival Program is held daily from the end of Orientation week through to week three of each semester. The program assists students who are new to Monash, Clayton and Melbourne. This popular program introduces participants to the information they missed during the mainstream orientation week and provides opportunities for social interaction with other new students. The program is also available on request for research students who arrive outside of the mainstream orientation period. For more information email ISS.

Language Exchange Program

The Language Exchange program involves international students offering to help local students who are often studying a foreign language - Japanese, Bahasa Indonesia, Korean, Chinese, Spanish, German and French. In exchange, international students receive assistance with English communication and friendly interaction with locals. Participants are matched to language requested, age and male/female preference. Time involved – one hour per week.  For more information please visit our site.

Family Support Program

The Family Support Program  aims to enhance the Australian experience of students with families who study across all campuses. Specially organized family outings are arranged to enable interaction community activities and events. Outings have included the Puffing Billy train, snow fun at Mt Buller and Lake Mountain while Sovereign Hill is a favourite. Social gatherings and introductory meetings are held to provide opportunities to meet other families for fun and friendship. To apply for the Family Support Program please fill in and return the application form to the ISS office in Building 10. For more information email ISS.

Farewell Program

Graduation gowns and silk hoods in the colour of the faculty are offered to the “about to graduate student” during the Farewell Program. This popular program is held at the end of each semester for those completing their course. This fun day includes sessions on employment, networking skills and graduation proceedings with a draw for the prized academic koalas and a professional photographer in attendance. An event not to be missed. For more information email ISS.
