Using the Assessment tool within IL
InterLearn allows for the creation of assessable activities that can
be marked online at the section level using the assessment tool.
Accessing Assessment
The assessment tool is part of the InterLearn Administration Interface
(http://my.monash.edu.au/interactive/interlearn/unitcode/admin) and is
accessed via the link entitled "Assessment for UnitName". In
order to access to the assessment tool, you must either have editing access
to the unit in the portal (to check this go to http://my.monash.edu.au/interactive/manage_subject/),
or have been nominated as a "tutorial contact" for a group within
the unit. Those with editing access will be able to view and assess all
student groups for the unit, while tutorial contacts will only have access
to the group or groups for which they are the nominated contact.
Navigating the Assessment tool
The Assessment screen lists all tutorial groups for the unit in a drop
down list in the center of the page. This is followed by a table per module
for the first listed group in the list. A sample Assessment page is presented
below.

To begin assessing student's work you select the group of students you
wish to mark from the drop down list and click the "view" button.
Alternatively, you can move between groups sequentially by using the [<<
previous group] and [next group >>] links that appear either side
of the drop down list.
When you have selected a group, the screen will display a table for each
module. The table will list the students vertically and the sections with
assessable activities horizontally. An indication of the assessment status
for each student appears in the body of the table. "UA" means
that all assessable activities in this section are unanswered. "UM"
indicates that the student has responded to at least one of the assessable
activities in the section and their response is unmarked. When a mark
has been recorded it will be displayed in place of "UM".
Assessing a student's response
To assess a student's response, click the relevant [UM] link within the
table. You can move between students sequentially using the [<<
previous in group] or [next in group >>] links at the top and bottom
of the page. Alternatively, you can return to the table by clicking the
[up to group level] links that appear at the top and bottom of the page.
To mark another section you must return to the table.
The screen will appear similar to the section page within the student
view, however any textboxes will be replaced by the response the student
entered and the date and time it was saved. A sample of this page is produced
below. The mark and feedback are recorded in the boxes at the bottom of
the page. Any previous mark and/or feedback will appear in the boxes and
can be edited and resaved at any time.
Any marking format is accepted in the box, which means you can assign
a number to the response/s, a percentage or a letter as the student's
"mark". The feedback box is limited to 1000 characters and will
accept any text. When you have completed entering your mark and feedback
you must click the "store information" box. When the assessment
is recorded it will be displayed beneath the section description when
the student next views the section page.
