| The purpose of the Industry Engagement and Commercialisation Group is to deliver impact from the innovation that the University’s researchers deliver in the course of their normal work. It’s about capturing that benefit and delivering it to industry and society.
Monash University has delivered a number of innovations into society and industry in Australia and overseas. It has spun-out over ten companies, as a result of its research work. It has been involved in a large number of the co-operative research centres in Australia and it has delivered innovation in direct work with industry in its contract research work
Recent examples of successful research transfer technologies involving Monash research inventions, have been a license to a U.S. company to develop an oral analgesic to treat the symptoms of cancer-related pain.
A license to a United Kingdom company to commercialise novel technologies for regenerating and modifying a patient’s immune system. A license to commercialise a diagnostic for rheumatoid arthritis.
There are many areas where Monash is absolutely world class. For a start it's located in an exciting research precinct, incorporating the largest science of the CSIRO and the Australian Synchrotron and the Monash Medical Centre. And i t has some wonderful equipment within the university including the Electron Microscopy centre as well as the Australian Stem Cell Centre and a whole range of other things. Each door you open at Monash, you come across another treasure.
So we’d like to think that industry understands what those advantages are, that we have critical strengths in certain areas that are of use to them and that we can capture those, so that we can deliver benefit to industry.
