Sports Report- April & May, 2007 Roberts residents have continued their fine starting form in inter-halls sport. After an enjoyable Easter break, our Volleyball team was full of many keen, enthuastic ressies, most of whom were new to volleyball. Despite only winning two games, it was fantastic to see so much support towards the team, with as many as 20 players turning up one game! Much fun was had by all, and many volleyball skills developed as well. Our Roberts soccer team proved to be quite strong, winning all games but one during the rounds. Whitey, Sam, Jules, Nihal, Tom, Umar, Meghan, Kristina all proved they make a talented team, coming 3rd in the competition overall, after narrowly losing a semi-final to Deakin. Roberts swimmers also proved to be sensational, taking out third place in the swimming competition. Our girls team - Sarah, Jen, Selene and Emma- placed in almost every race, winning the 4 x 25m freestyle relay. Our boys - Nihal, Nikil, Tim, Matt and Liam- also placed frequently, and contributed greatly to our overall score. But our highlight over the past two months has to be our success in the Pool competition, with Whitey winning the Mens Singles, and our mixed doubles team coming 3rd. Mav, Tom, Carrie and Whitey all put in a superb effort, and ought to be congratulated on their success. We finished off the semester with our own friendly air-hockey and foosball competitions, held in the games room. Many laughs were had by all, but Liam proved to be too talented, taking out the foosball and air-hockey titles. Tom and Phil definitely made him earn these titles, with the final games being won by just one point. A big thankyou and congratulations goes to every resident who took part this semester, and also to those who come along and cheered our teams on. Hope everyone enjoys the break, and in a few weeks time will be ready to crack straight back into it, with basketball being the first sport for semester 2. Anna Ross
Sports Report- March 2007 What a fantastic start Roberts has made to the 2007 interhalls sporting season! Starting off with tennis; a combined effort from Sam, Tom G, Daniel, Nikil, Simon and Nathan got the boys through to the semi-final, narrowly losing to Deakin who went on to take out the competition. The girls also put in a top effort; Kristina, Narelle, Anna and Steph won 2 of the 6 games, only just missing out on finals. Next up was badminton, and what a fantastic adventure that was! Our badminton team, consisting of Ashlee, Lin, Nikil, Nancy and Zhi-Xuan, made it through each round undefeated! Unfortunately this winning streak couldn't hold out for the finals, but the team still did Roberts proud, taking out second in the grand final to Richardson. Congratulations to everyone who has taken part by participating or cheering our teams on; a very successful sporting year looks to be on the cards for Roberts Hall this year! -Anna Ross Timetable of MRS Sporting Events for 2007
