Soccer Competition 2007

Winner: Ground floor

Runner-up: 2nd Commons

The Annual Farrer Inter-floors soccer competition was conducted in week 8 of semester 1. Once again, all inter-floor companionship and memorable Thursday night times spent together were forgotten, as floors came together to fiercely contest the 2007 crown.

Ground floor, fresh from their triumph in the recent Farrer-Olympics, were once again out to prove the point that the least populated floor at Farrer didn’t necessarily prevent them from being a force to be reckoned with on the sporting arena.

They had the last laugh when their highly criticised international recruits in American Dave (Beckham) and Swedish Robin(ho) proved to be the match winners against the highly regarded 2nd Commons outfit. For the majority of the match 2nd Commons looked the goods, controlling most of the play and having plenty opportunities to put a score on the board mainly through Yosor Bizzari and Jack Taylor. However it was the Swedish flamboyance of Robin(ho) that sealed victory for Ground Floor when some of his trademark creative footwork set up a long range scoring opportunity that caught English Dan (2nd Commons goal keeper) off-guard, sailing past him for the only goal of the match. Similar flamboyance was definitely not lacking in the ensuing goal celebrations. Despite several desperate efforts in the final minutes 2nd Commons was unable to equalise and Ground Floor recorded their second sporting victory for the year.
