Environmental Initiatives
Farrer Hall is no different to the rest of the world, we make an impact on the environment. The job of any responsible person or organisation is to try to ensure that the impact made is sustainable and that future generations will enjoy the same resources and naturally beautiful environment that we currently enjoy.
In 2003 Monash Residential Services (MRS) created an Environment Committee (EC) with the aim of making the Halls of Residence more sustainable. The EC is made up of Resident Advisors (RAs) from all the Halls and has been extremely busy. A large focus of the committee is on the simple motto: 'Reduce, Reuse, Recycle'. The committee has seen significant inroads into the third R, Recycling but little impact on the first two R's which are much more important but more difficult to change.
MRS also has a vegetable garden just behind Richardson Hall where residents from all the halls can make use of.
We need more ideas and support from residents to change the culture at Farrer when it comes to using resources and disposing of 'waste'. Please contact our Environmental RA with your input.
