About the presenter...


The Centre for Medical Informatics, CMI, has a long history in developing technology for medical and continuing medical educational technology. Margaret Bearman is a lecturer at CMI. She has designed and implemented a number of interactive packages including the HIV Medical Education Hypermedia Project versions 1 and 2, and What's the Hype? (patient education on asthma, drugs and alcohol, body image and HIV/AIDS). Her latest project has been the creation of the Technology in Medical Information web site, (http://www.monash.edu.au/informatics/techme/index.htm) which is aimed at multimedia developers.

About the presentation...


There are useful fundamental principles in developing good educational technology - whether for the World Wide Web or for interactive multimedia. These provide guidelines for novices and reminders for experienced developers. Margaret will discuss these principles in relation to her own working methods. The HIV project, What's the Hype? and web-based materials will be demonstrated, showing possible dangers and potential improvements in a development process.
