Electronic Practical Notes: New Delivery
Methods...
On April 22nd, 1994, Dr Chris Browne of the Department of Physiology
gave HEPCIT's inaugural presentation on the subject of Electronic
Practical Notes: New Delivery Methods for Undergraduate Science
Laboratories. Chris reported on a system developed in conjunction
with the QED Research Unit that will provide students with a computerised
manual for use in practical laboratory sessions, as an alternative to
the traditional printed manual. The system was trialled over twelve
sessions in March, each involving 30 students in a laboratory equipped
with 15 Macintosh computer systems, and the results of the trials were
independently evaluated and the outcomes reported by Dr Malcolm
Eley of HEARU. Although not part of this trial, it is planned that in the
future the computers will be used as an integral part of the laboratory
practical exercise, for data acquisition, and also to provide tutorial
support for those students who require it.
