Creating Multimedia on Your PC

On June 6th, 1994, Dr Raymond Li of the Department of Business Systems. gave a presentation titled Creating Multimedia on Your PC? Believe It or Not!.

His theme, supported by excellent use of computergenerated audio-visuals (which included full-motion video and sound clips)focussed on how to create multimedia resources on a low-cost PC, through the use of reasonably priced software products such as Compel (fromAsymetrix), and the `baseline' product, Microsoft Video for Windows.

In this presentation, (attended by 61 people!), Raymond led us through aworking demonstration of many of the facets of multimedia, in real time before our very eyes (and ears!), with emphasis on the fact that he isusing as his development tools the lower priced, middle ground products available for the IBM PC compatible platform.

Noting that in the near future more students will have access at home to MPCs (multimedia personal computers) equipped with sound cards, CD-ROM drives, and high capacity hard disks, Raymond enthusiastically provided his audience with pointers on how to get started in multimedia "without costing you an arm and a leg". After the presentation, he gave an on-the-spotdemonstration of how to actually do many of the things about which he had presented so competently.
