Graduation summary

Four graduates

Monash is proud to help you celebrate your academic achievements with family and friends. You can choose to do this in a traditional way by attending a ceremony, or graduate without attending.

Graduation is not automatic

  • Current students should apply in your final year.
  • Past students can apply anytime.

Options

You need to choose:

  • whether to attend a ceremony, or not attend (graduate in absentia)
  • the ceremony location in Australia or overseas
  • the semester of graduation.

Overseas ceremonies

If you choose a ceremony in China or Hong Kong, you must attend the ceremony in person.

Closing dates

  • Semester one ceremonies - December 15 of previous year.
  • Semester two ceremonies - July 15 of current year.

Apply before the closing date to allow us time to confirm your course completion:

  • if you don't complete your course, we will defer your graduation
  • you can apply and defer graduating to a future year
  • you can only defer your graduation once
  • if you need to pass a summer semester unit, you may not be course completed in time to graduate in semester one.

Applications

Current and past students (including Open Universities Australia)

Apply using the Web Enrolment System (WES), which allows you to:

  • apply to graduate online
  • check the progress of your application
  • view your ceremony date
  • update details such as name displayed on your certificate, address, attendance, etc.

If your authcate login has expired, we allow limited access to WES using your student ID, name and date of birth.

Only credit and debit card payments are accepted online. Cash and cheque payments can be made at Monash Connect on your campus.

Fees and services

There is no cost to graduate without attending a ceremony (in absentia).

The cost of attending your graduation ceremony is $197. (AUD$100 in South Africa).

The fee covers:

  • gown hire and program
  • attendance and refreshments for you and three guests.

Extra guest tickets are not usually available. In the rare case that they are, we will email all students who have applied to graduate, with information on how to secure extra tickets.

Graduation date and documents

Your graduation date will be the same whether you attend your ceremony or not. You will receive:

  • a degree certificate (testamur)
  • an Australian Higher Education Graduation Statement (AHEGS)
  • an academic transcript.

If you graduate in absentia, we will post these documents to you. Allow 10-15 working days for delivery.

Ceremony day services

Photographs, flowers, certificate framing, and more are available for purchase on the day.
