Monash University graduate Grace Ng is bringing the latest TV news into the homes of thousands of Malaysians.

And she is working in this exciting industry just months after completing Bachelor of communication degree at the Malaysian campus of Monash in Kuala Lumpur.

The 24 year old is an assistant producer for the 8pm news on television station ntv7, compiling and presenting breaking news stories from around the world.

Grace says she loves her job and being part of a busy and dynamic environment where she relays the latest news to viewers across Malaysia.

"The fact I know the news before everyone else, it sort of gives me a rush. And to be reporting something that is actually so important is just so exciting," she says.

It is the kind of job Grace has dreamed of, but something she thought might take several years of work to realise.

"The fact that straight after university I managed to land a superb job was really amazing," Grace says. "Some days it is a bit hard to believe that I have progressed so far.

"The journey has been quite incredible really. I never imagined I would have a career in media so quickly."

She thinks a Monash qualification definitely helped her get a good job fast.

"Yes I think it has, because there is Monash University on my resume it does stand out," she says.

Monash University has campuses in Australia, Malaysia and South Africa, 56,000 students, 7000 staff and an enviable reputation for teaching and research excellence. Monash is a member of the prestigious research intensive Group of Eight universities in Australia.

Malaysian students have been travelling to Australia for a Monash qualification for several decades, but more recently opportunity is much closer to home.

Monash University was the first foreign university invited to operate in the country by the Malaysian Government in 1998. Now after ten years, it is a respected and trusted member of the community and operates from a state-of-the-art purpose-built campus at Bandar Sunway in Petaling Jaya, with 4400 students and 400 staff.

Growing up, Grace had heard positive things about the quality and reputation of Monash University from her friends' older brothers and sisters. She also heard from friends who themselves studied at Monash University speak of the wide variety of experiences and the quality of teaching. So, in 2006, Grace decided to try Monash for herself.

She says it was an experience that broadened her perspective on the world and gave her the creativity and maturity to succeed.

"Monash provides you with a background and a framework in which to think and that is what gave me the most advantage," she says. "I think that is what gave all of us Monash students an advantage, an advantage above the rest."
