A new building for the Monash University School of Music – Conservatorium
Creativity on show
Visitors to Monash’s Clayton campus will be greeted with a landscaped area and attractive walkway — The Monash Walk.
The Monash Walk will lead towards the new School of Music building and its distinctive feature — The Music Laneway. A lane will run alongside glass-walled music practice rooms that adjoin the School of Music. Passersby will be able to see and hear music students at work. Using cutting-edge technology, the rooms will be soundproofed in such a way that those inside cannot hear extraneous noise, but those outside can hear music being played.
This fits with Monash University’s philosophy that the creativity of students should be on display for everyone to enjoy.
Designed by experts and built by specialists, the new building for the School of Music will be defined by precision-level acoustics and will feature:
- a stunning concert hall
- a chamber/recital venue
- a jazz-style music club
- recording studios and
- many practice, rehearsal, teaching and student spaces
