"The semester program in Prato Italy was such an incredible experience. It was interesting to move from my usual environment as a visual artist into a new and strange culture with a rich art history."
- Will Macdonald, Art, Design and Architecture alumnus
The Faculty of Art, Design and Architecture has a strong international program for Australian art and design students and is seeking to expand the existing international program.
Our students draw great benefits from a period of study in an international city. Students can view genuine examples of major styles of work in their original environments.
The faculty’s undergraduate students have the opportunity to spend a semester, or take a unit, at Monash University's centre in Prato, Italy, near Florence. Each year about 50 students benefit from this program. The faculty aims to expand the program based at the Prato Centre to include study trips focusing on media such as textiles, glass or ceramics.
With the support of donors, the faculty plans to introduce 10 new student travel scholarships and bursaries. There will be five travel scholarships based on merit, plus five equity bursaries for students who would not otherwise be able to afford to the international units.
