Monash Injury Research Institute

Our goal is simple but profound: to prevent injury, save lives, and build futures.

By supporting the Monash Injury Research Institute you are investing in the Australian community.

Each year, significant numbers of Australians are killed or admitted to hospital as a result of injuries received on the road, at home, at work, at school, in sport, recreation or various other activities.

The annual cost to the community is estimated at over $10 billion, not to mention the immeasurable personal cost when someone we love is killed or injured. Yet many of these injuries are preventable.

By applying a scientific approach to the development of practical prevention programs, we can make a difference.

Victorian Road Safety is just one example of our research at work. In 1989, there were 776 people killed on Victorian roads. Today, through Government action based on MIRI research, Victorian roads are amongst the safest in the world, with less than 400 deaths per year.

But we must remain vigilant with our research and public education.

The Monash University Accident Research Foundation was established to support the valuable research at the Institute in partnership with others to reduce injuries.

The Foundation relies upon and acknowledges the funding for research provided by the private and public sectors, as well as from individuals and trusts.
