A range of valuable community assets

The new Sir Zelman Cowen School of Music building will feature fantastic spaces for the local community.

Modern community facilities

Monash already opens its doors to the community by hosting events in its Robert Blackwood Hall (a concert hall seating almost 1600).

But due to the hall’s size and the fact that it is Melbourne’s most prestigious venue outside the CBD, it is often too expensive for community groups to hire. Rates for hiring the Robert Blackwood Hall range from between $4500 to more than $10,000.

The new Sir Zelman Cowen School of Music building will feature fantastic spaces for the local community:

  • a state-of-the-art, acoustically-designed 800-seat concert hall
  • an outside amphitheatre seating 600 people
  • a 100-seat recital venue and
  • a 200-seat, jazz-style music club

These facilities will be hired out at affordable community rates and will be a boon to the local community.

New recording studios and an editing suite will be available for hire to local musicians and producers.

As well as having modern facilities to hire, the local and wider community will, of course, continue to enjoy the many high-quality events hosted by Monash, such as concerts and research seminars.
