If you need help with study-related expenses come and talk to a student adviser at Health and Wellbeing.
Both domestic and international Monash University students studying at an Australian campus can apply for an interest free loan.
We offer two types:
| Loan type | Amount | Loan period | Guarantor |
|---|---|---|---|
| Short-term | Up to $750 | Up to 6 months | Not required |
| Long-term | Up to $3,000 | Up to 12 months | Required |
We can lend you money to cover a wide range of study-related expenses such as books, computer, car, housing, etc. We will consider other legitimate expenses if your ability to continue studying is in jeopardy.
You cannot use these funds to pay your course or amenities fees or visa changes for international students.
We will work out a repayment schedule with you. You must repay the full amount of your loan by the time you finish your course or if you leave the University.
In cases of severe or sudden financial hardship, we may be able to help you with a small grant that you do not need to repay. See a student adviser.
If you want to rent privately, most landlords will ask you to pay a bond.
The Department of Human Services (DHS) provides interest-free loans to help people struggling to pay the bond. You cannot use the money for rent in advance or moving costs.
DHS Bond Loan Scheme has more information on eligibility and applications.
You could approach a bank and apply for a personal loan. You need to think about choosing a reputable lending institution, getting a good interest rate and whether you can afford the repayments. Talk to a student adviser first about your options.
