Centrelink - government income support

Students may be able to receive income support administered by Centrelink. There are different benefits, rates of pay and requirements for different student groups. See Centrelink - student and trainees. To make an appointment, phone 13 1021.

Living allowances

All Centrelink allowances are means tested. Check if you are eligible by contacting Centrelink.

Health Care Card

Most Australian students are eligible for a Low Income Health Care Card. Benefits can include:

  • concession fares on public transport
  • concession rate for prescription medicines
  • 50% off car registration
  • discounts on utility bills.
