Tuition Fee Encumbrance

If a student, without an approved extension, does not pay their tuition fees by the due date an encumbrance will be placed on the student's account. A letter will be sent to the student notifying them of the encumbrance.

This encumbrance will stop:

  • library borrowing and other library services
  • access to Monash University's computer system
  • access to enrolment records, examination results and academic transcripts
  • graduation

Relevant Policies

Students who continue not to pay tuition and amenities fees will have their enrolment invalidated. (See Invalidation of enrolment.)

To Lift an Encumbrance

  1. The student must pay the outstanding amount owing. (See Payment methods.)
  2. When payment is receipted by Monash University, it will take approximately 2-3 working days for a student's computer access to be reinstated. Please note that payments made on a Friday afternoon, via the phone or internet banking systems will not be receipted by the University until the following Monday.
