Mobile phones, unauthorised material and cheating

There are strict rules in place for conduct during exams. Possession of unauthorised material in an exam is an offence.

Possession refers to items:

  • in your pockets, clothing or on any part of your person
  • on your desk or chair.

Unauthorised material refers to items not approved for the exam. Approved items will often be listed on the front page of the exam paper. For more information, see exam rules and check with your faculty.

You must turn off your mobile phone (including the alarm), if you bring it into the exam, and put all unauthorised items in your bag on the floor.

Discipline

You will have to face a discipline committee, if you are charged with:

  • possession of unauthorised materials
  • attempting to cheat
  • cheating.

If the charge is proven, we may suspend you from your course or exclude you from the University. If we find you in possession of a mobile phone during an exam, you may receive a fine of up to $300.
