Chemistry Literate Electronic Data Management in Drug Discovery
Dr Philip Thompson, Department of Medicinal Chemistry, Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences.
The burgeoning requirements with respect to data management in drug discovery sciences demand the introduction of information systems that can be linked by chemical structure. These demands include OHSE regulations, data storage to ensure integrity of data for intellectual property, management of high throughput chemistry and biology, and cross-institutional collaborative science. This project will develop a mechanism for a department-wide chemical inventory system and the institution of other data management and workflow processes in selected participating groups within the Department of Medicinal Chemistry.
The main objective of this project is to develop chemical-structure literate data management systems for the Medicinal Chemistry Department that offer the following capabilities:
- A fine chemical inventory of over 5000 stored chemicals including safe handling, storage and re-ordering data,
- A trial of Electronic notebooks for participating research staff and students in the Department, and
- The Development of secure databases for high value chemicals synthesised in-house and linked to biologically literate data management systems.
