Bioreactor Modelling
Stuart Cogan, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering.
Bioreactor Modelling research is centred around investigating the culture environment inside a novel bioreactor for tissue engineering, particularly from a fluid mechanics and mass transport perspective. One of the main goals of this project is to change the effects of flow boundary conditions and the tissue shape and size of vessels and, by so doing, investigate the shear stress, strain distributions and the mass transport properties of these vessels. The image below is a computational model of stream-ribbons flowing around an iso-surface of vorticity that represents the approximate shape and location of a vortex breakdown bubble in one of the aforementioned vessels.
