Subversion Version Control SystemSubversion (SVN) is an opensource revision control (version control) application that was created in 2000. SVN was designed to allow users to store, access and alter source code while retaining all previous versions of the code for future revision and use. Although primarily used by programmers as a source code repository, SVN can also be used as a simple version tracking system for documents and similar files. The Monash instance of SVN is a secure service, and utilises LaRDS for archiving and redundancy. Accessing SubversionSVN can be accessed using several methods including a web-based portal (read-only), graphical interfaces (such as Tortoise) and the SVN commandline. The web-based portal can be accessed here: https://svn-vre.its.monash.edu.au/ Getting started with SubversionPublic repositories can be accessed using any of the above methods, but secure, project-specific SVN sites can be created as requested. In order to enquire about an SVN account or site, please contact Peter Dixon or Russell Keil, or email: merc@adm.monash.edu.au. Once a site has been created, users can log in using their Monash Authcate credentials. A quick-start guide will be made available in the near future, and the Subversion homepage contains extensive documentation and an FAQ. In addition, there is a comprehensive user manual located here. Acceptable use policy and DisclaimerThis Monash Subversion service is provided ‘as is’ by Monash University for use by Monash researchers and their research collaborators at other institutions. Use by your research collaborators external to Monash University is encouraged and welcomed. Use of this service by all users is subject to Monash University's normal Staff Acceptable Use Policy for IT Services (AUP) available at: www.policy.monash.edu/policy-bank/management/its/it-use-policy-staff-and-authorised.html. The Monash team leader of each research group is responsible for ensuring that the AUP is adhered to by all members of the group. Publication of information, information access controls and group membership controls are the responsibility of the team leader of each worksite. Monash University does not warrant the accuracy of the information provided by the service, nor the fitness for purpose of the service for your intended application. Data is stored and backed-up on the University’s LaRDS research data store. Services are provided to 3rd parties on an ‘all care no responsibility’ basis. Use of this site indicates your acceptance of these terms and conditions. |
