e-Research Collaborations 

• NCRIS Activities
  National Collaborative Research Infrastructure Strategy. Monash is involved in a range of NCRIS activities, in particular ANDS and AuScope.
    
• Oxford-Monash e-Research Collaboration
  The Oxford and Monash e-Research centres are exploring a range of collaborative activities. 
    
• VeRSI Project
  Victorian e-Research Strategic Initiative.  A collaboration between Monash University, The University of Melbourne and LaTrobe University.  Funded by the State Government of Victoria.
    

Monash e-Research Infrastructure Projects

• Monash Campus Grid (MCG) Programme
  A programme of activities to build a comprehensive and integrated set of central and devolved facilities. Major components of the Monash Campus Grid include:
  • Monash Sun Grid (MSG) – central compute facility
  • Large Research Data Store (LaRDS) – central storage facility
  • Various faculty-based compute grid clusters
  • Harvesting Spare CPU cycles - The Monash SPONGE Facility
  • A comprehensive Grid Middleware suite

• Clayton Precinct High Performance Computing (HPC) Planning Project
  A 2008-9 project to plan a major refit of Monash's central high performance computing (HPC) facilities in 2009-10.
       
• Monash e-Research Portal (MeRP) Project
  The Monash e-Research Portal (MeRP) project will provide a single integrated and tailored web environment for researchers. It will provide a range of functionality including:
  • Collaboration tools
  • Research data management systems
  • Discipline specific and custom tools and advice
  • Workflow systems and grid tools
  • Discovery tools - What's happening at Monash
  • Administrative systems

• Identity Management for Researchers (IMR) Project
  A 2009 project to deploy federated authentication (AAF ) technologies at Monash, such that HDR students and research collaborators external to Monash can seamlessly access Monash e-Research services and applications in the same way as do Monash research staff.

Monash ITS Projects

• Integrated Collaboration Environment (ICE) Programme
  A Monash-wide programme of activities to upgrade and integrate its email, calendar, telephone, desktop video conferencing, workgroup collaboration and information management services.
   
• Research Administration Information Systems (RaIS) Project
  ITS and Research Officer continue to upgrade the functionality of Monash's Research Administration and management information systems.
