61. PROVISION OF UNIFORMS AND PROTECTIVE CLOTHING

61.1 Uniforms will be issued to staff on the following basis:

Cleaning staff (other than Monash Unicomm or Sports and Recreation Association cleaning staff)

Male staff members

  • Overalls x 2 on commencement and overalls x 1 issued annually thereafter

Female staff members

  • Work dresses x 2 on commencement and work dress x 1 issued annually thereafter

Monash Residential Services Accommodation Units catering staff

Safety boots x 1 pair

Monash Unicomm catering staff

All catering staff

  • Shirts x 2 as required

Catering staff member engaged in stores duties

  • Boots x 1 pair as required

Chefs and other food preparation staff

  • Aprons x 2 annually
  • Coats x 2 annually
  • Hats x 2 annually
  • Pants x 2 pairs annually

Kitchen hands and dishwashers

  • Apron (heavy duty, black) x 2 as required

Seasonal catering staff

  • Apron x 3 as required
  • Hat x 2 as required

Monash Unicomm cleaning staff (as defined under Part 4 of this Agreement)

Building Attendants/Stewards

  • Jumper x 1 annually
  • Parka x 1 as required
  • Shirts x 2 annually
  • Trousers x 2 annually

Cleaning staff (female)

  • Bomber jacket x 1 (where required to work outdoors)
  • Work dresses x 2 annually

Cleaning staff (male)

  • Bomber jacket x 1 (where required to work outdoors)
  • Jumper x 1 annually
  • Overalls/trousers x 2 annually
  • Shirts x 2 annually

Kitchen cleaning staff

  • Rubber boots as required

Retail services staff

Shirts x 2 and cardigan x 1 annually

Sports and Recreation Association cleaning staff

Gloves x 1 pair, overalls x 1, and safety boots x 1 pair on commencement and replacement thereafter as and when required.

Sports Control Desk staff on Clayton Campus

Jumper x 1, shorts x 1 pair, and t-shirt x 1 on commencement and replacement thereafter as and when required.

61.2 Protective clothing and equipment (SAA approved) in addition to any uniforms issued will be provided to staff as and when required to satisfy the University's statutory occupational health and safety obligations. This may include safety helmets, broad-brimmed hats, ear/hearing protection, gloves, goggles, gum boots and skin protective cream/sunscreen (15+ rating). In addition one pair of UV-rated safety glasses or UV-rated clip-ons suitable to overlay prescription spectacles shall be made available for work on metal decking, large concrete slabs exposed to sunlight, roofing, and/or curtain walling.

61.3 All items of uniforms and/or protective clothing issued to staff by the University shall remain the property of the University during the staff member's employment with the University and are required to be returned to the University by the staff member upon the termination of his/her employment, except where such requirement is waived by the staff member's supervisor.

62. TOOLS AND MATERIALS

In the absence of any allowance paid, the University shall supply all tools and materials necessary for the work required to be performed by staff members.

63. SHOP STEWARDS

63.1 A staff member appointed shop steward in the shop or department in which he/she is employed shall, upon notification thereof to the University, be recognised as the accredited representative of the union to which he/she belongs, and he/she shall be allowed the necessary time during working hours to interview the University's relevant representative(s) on matters affecting staff members whom he/she represents.

63.2 Subject to the prior approval of the University an accredited shop steward shall be allowed at a place designated by the University a reasonable period of time during working hours to interview a duly accredited union official of the union to which he/she belongs on legitimate union business.

64. TIME AND WAGES BOOK

64.1 The University shall keep a record from which can be readily ascertained the name of each staff member and his/her occupation, the hours worked each day, and the wages and allowances paid each week. Such record shall be deemed to include records maintained on a computer recording system or timeclock.

64.2 The time occupied by a staff member in filling in any time record or cards or in the making of records shall be treated as time of duty, but this does not apply to checking in or out when entering or leaving the University's premises.

64.3 The time and wages record for any staff member shall be open for inspection to that staff member during the usual office hours of the University at the relevant office of the University or other convenient place. The same shall also apply to a duly accredited union official provided that an inspection shall not be demanded unless the secretary of the union or the district secretary or organiser of any division suspects that a breach of this Agreement has been committed and any inspection will be limited to the records of staff who have expressly authorised such inspection. In addition, a request by a staff member or union official for inspection shall be limited to one per fortnight.

64.4 The staff member or union official making such inspection shall be entitled to take a copy of entries in a time and wages record relating to any suspected breach of this Agreement.

65. TRAINING

Where it is agreed through the Joint Consultative Committee and with the staff member concerned that additional training in accordance with the trades and services training programmes developed pursuant to clause 10 herein should be undertaken by the staff member, that training may be undertaken either on or off the job. Provided that if the training is undertaken during ordinary working hours the employee concerned shall not suffer any loss of pay. The University shall not unreasonably withhold such paid training leave.

Any costs associated with standard fees for prescribed courses and prescribed textbooks (excluding those textbooks which are available in the University's technical library) incurred in connection with the undertaking of training shall be reimbursed by the University upon production of evidence of such expenditure. Provided that reimbursement shall also be on an annual basis subject to the presentation of reports of satisfactory progress.

Travel costs incurred by a staff member undertaking training in accordance with this clause which exceed those normally incurred in travelling to and from work shall be reimbursed by the University.

66. NOTICEBOARD

The University shall permit a notice board of reasonable dimensions to be erected in a prominent position in its plant or in separate buildings in each plant so that it will be reasonably accessible to all staff working under this Agreement. Staff shall be permitted to post notices on the notice board or boards where they are signed with the approval of the University. Accredited union representatives shall be permitted to put on the notice board or boards union notices signed or counter-signed by the representative posting it. Any union notice posted on such board not so signed or counter-signed may be removed by an accredited union representative or by the University. Any other notice without the signed approval of the University may be removed by the University
