Teaching Methods & Classes

Teaching methods

  • MUELC bases its teaching on a broad communicative approach, which integrates the four macro skills, Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking
  • Authentic materials are used where possible
  • A mixture of student-centred and teacher-centred methods allows students to gain confidence and work at their own pace individually or in a group
  • Teachers use written material, audio tapes, videos and graphic material
  • Computer programs support teaching and learning.

Classes

  • Class sizes range from 10 to 18 students, with an average of 12-14
  • Students study English for 25 hours per week, Monday - Friday, from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm
  • The Computer Lab and the Independent Learning Centre are open from 8:00 am -6:00 pm for classes and supervised self-study outside class hours
  • Students receive a course information document outlining the objectives relating to the four macro skills, approach being used, themes and topics, excursions proposed and assessment methods
  • Teachers follow the course curriculum at each level and choose texts according to the needs and interests of the class
  • Study materials are provided but students will need to purchase notebooks and stationery. Textbooks may be required in some programs
  • Students receive a written, individual progress assessment report every five weeks and a detailed Final Course Report.
