English Language Bridging Program (ELBP)

The English Language Bridging Program (ELBP) is a full-time program that bridges the gap between your previous English language qualifications and those accepted by Monash. On successful completion of the program, you are admitted directly to Monash University or Monash College.

Who is this course for?

The ELBP course is for students who have received a conditional offer to study at either Monash University or Monash College.

About the program

The ELBP program is a full-time course with classes held Monday to Friday, 8.30 am – 12.45 pm, or 12.45 pm – 5pm.

The weekly study load totals 40 hours:

  • 20 hours in-class study
  • 3 hours guided independent learning
  • 2 hours tutorial/special classes
  • 15 hours homework/preparation.

Course structure

The English Language Bridging Program provides the learning environment for students to develop skills in language, self-disciplined learning and content knowledge within an Australian educational context.

Classes focus on academic skills and preparation for the reading, writing, speaking and listening, note-taking and research that students will be undertaking within their Monash course.

Entry requirements

To enter the ELBP you must have a Conditional Offer from either Monash University or Monash College.

Your current English test scores and the destination course you have chosen determine whether you have been offered the 10-week or 15-week English Language Bridging Program.

Your Offer letter tells you which course you have been accepted into and your commencement date.

To pass the Program you must complete a series of tasks that test your ability to use English for academic studies.

Assessment tasks reflect the work you will do in your University or College course. These may vary – sometimes they may be written, sometimes they require you to find out information from reading a text. Tasks and assessments include:

  • an academic essay
  • research assignments
  • seminar presentations.

Fees

Tuition fees depend on whether you are taking a 10-week or 15-week program.

You will need to pay: an enrolment of A$200 tuition fees

Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC):

International students can apply for admission to the English Language Bridging Program only when receiving a Conditional offer to study at Monash University or Monash College.
