| 2007 - short update | |
2007 - YES the club still exists!!!!!!!!! Actually we are going strong - but we really need more active people going out diving and helping with committee and gear locker/compressor. We believe that WE WILL BE PUTTING THE PRICES DOWN!!! Especially for non-student/staff!!!!!! We are thinking about including free air fills at the club locker on clayton campus [at specified times only (might be on club meeting nites only or something like that)] as part of club membership. This can only be done if we have more people helping with active commitee involvement and help with the gear locker/compressor. And then there is EASTER! Traditionally a time for a trip away doing LOTS of scuba diving. Put on yoru thinking caps - where shall we go this year? --- As you might have guessed this is an unauthorised post by deepdan |

| SUMMER BOAT DIVING | |
The clubs large boat will be going out over the Uni closedown period as well as most weekends in summer. Please contact Erwin to find out when it will be going out next [preferably let him know when you would like to go out and it makes it easier to plan trips]. Midweek as well as Weekend diving is quite likely. NOTE: You must make sure your tanks are in test as the only air is available from Portsea at the moment and they are being strict. | Save Ewens Ponds | |
Gerard Carmody [a monuc club member off and on for many years ] has been busy campaigning to save Ewens Ponds. He wrote a while ago: This is an article that I have recently written to raise wide awareness of the rapid decline of the wetlands of Ewens Ponds in South Australia Its about water and its allocation. You may be aware of this. Ewens Ponds and neighbouring Picanninie Ponds have iconic diving status in Australia as you know. Perhap you may be able to distribute through the Scuba Divers Federation of Victoria may have an interest The Ponds have enormous ecological significance. They attract visitors from all over Australia and Internationally as well. There are good reasons for this. Please read this article and assist. If you wish to obtain a higher resolution version for printing, please let me know. I'm keen to rejoin MONUC this Summer. cheers, Gerard You can read about it here http://www.monash.edu.au/clubs/monuc/docs/EwensPonds/ http://www.angfa.org.au/ftp/Save_Ewens_Pond_low_res.pdf |

| City of Launceston --- was great!! | |
Well folk, you all missed out. Four club members went for a splash on the City of Launceston shipwreck on Thursday. Weather was reasonable, boat ride wasn't bad (about 30 minutes for 22km). Silty water as expected. Great wreck for a visit - very similar to eliza ramsden, but more deck. One day soon I'll pop up some photos. Now we just have to wait for Heritage Victoria to make a decision about whether there will ever be public access to this wreck again. |
