ABOUT SIL

The International Society for Limnology (Societas Internationalis Limnologiae
or SIL) was founded in Kiel, Germany, in 1922. It is an international association
of scientists who are primarily concerned with the scientific study and
management of inland water ecosystems. Currently it has over 3200 members
from 80 countries.
Every three years it holds congresses, which are amongst the largest
and most diverse international gathering of limnological scientists in
the world. The 27th Congress is being was held in Dublin in August 1998
and the 28th will be held in Melbourne on the Clayton campus of Monash
University in February 2001.
