Abstract:
After the development
of Driver Competencies and Training Packages, the next link in the
whole approach to the preparation of new drivers for a safe driving
career, is the development of an efficient student recording system
that allows the Driver Trainer to place the student into the correct
training category and plan the complete training program. This enables
the Driver Trainer to provide the individual tuition that is tailored
to the student's needs.
The logbook now being
used in some States provides the student with a record of training,
but this remains in the student's hands with the only access by
the Trainer being at the time of the driving lesson. This does not
allow the Trainer to plan the lessons ahead and to therefore provide
interesting and informative driving lessons, as well as recording
areas of concern that will require special attention as training
progresses. Of particular interest could be the recording of personality
and attitudinal problems that may affect the way that student drives
in the future.
In a monitoring program
of students after licensing when crashes and offences are investigated,
the information recorded during training could provide an invaluable
base for the way in which future programs are implemented.
As well as the Driver
Trainer keeping records, the Driving School will keep records on
the Driver Trainer's ongoing performance, which allows the proprietor
to monitor areas of concern and implement retraining programs as
necessary to maintain standards. These records will allow external
auditors such as Government Licensing Authorities easy access to
the Driving School Program.
