Abstract:
This paper reviews some
of the the issues involved in rescue and remote road trauma management,
to provide appropriate resources and training and to facilitate
better trauma management especially management of the 'golden hour'
of treatment.
This project involves
the review of rural fatal crash sites and emergency services proceudures
when in attendance,consultation with road users of remote areas
as well as emergency services, RFDS and remote communities. Focus
testing of concepts and ideas, introduction of trial Emergency Rescue
Equipment Receptacle (ERER).
The paper will provide
an over view of the development of the Emergency Response Equipment
Receptacle that includes ownership and involvement by local community,
support and sponsorship by local industry. The project has resulted
in greater acceptance, awareness, skills, empowerment, services
and better practices to deal with rural road trauma. The effectiveness
of the project will be difficult to monitor due to need for crashes
to happen to prove worth, however will provide excellent opportunities
as a training resource for emergency services management.
