Transport Conference

Introduction

The Transport and Social Inclusion Committee invites you to attend the Transport, Social Inclusion and Well-being: Where to from here? Conference.

The Committee comprises of people who are interested in arising awareness and promoting knowledge on transport and social inclusion issues.

The Conference and Committee is sponsored by the Department of Transport, Monash University, the Bus Association Victoria, the RACV, the Victorian Council of Social Service and the Victorian Community Transport
Association.

The 2009 Conference will bring together policy makers,academics and practitioners from the transport,planning and social welfare disciplines to explore the interface between transport and social inclusion.The Conference will help raise the level of debate and broaden the understanding of transport and social inclusion.

It will aim to identify current and emerging transport issues and options that support and encourage a socially inclusive Victoria. Some of these issues include climate change, minimum service levels and service innovation. It will also highlight the findings of the Australian Research Council Study Grant, Investigating Transport Disadvantage, Social Exclusion and Well-Being in Metropolitan, Regional and Rural Victoria. The study investigated the level of transport disadvantage and social exclusion and the link to the well-being of Victorians.

The Conference key objectives are to discuss the links between transport provision, social inclusion and well-being issues by:

– Identifying how transport supports inclusive communities.
– Understand how to promote factors that increase personal mobility and reduce the barriers to mobility.
– Identifying what has happened elsewhere and what can be learnt.
– Provide an update on transport initiatives.
