A word about our lecturers

Accounting

Simon Phelan has over 20 years' experience teaching in the Commerce area. He was Head of Senior School at Elisabeth Murdoch College, Langwarrin from 2004-07 and spent 2008 working in the Examinations Unit at VCAA. Simon was Chief Assessor in Accounting for 7 years and was a member of the Accounting Examination Writing Panel for 6 years. He regularly presents for teachers at VCTA Professional Development sessions and has been involved in the writing of trial examination papers in 2009. Simon is still an assessor in Accounting and uses this experience when presenting revision lectures for students.

He has been presenting the Legal Studies lecture at Monash for the VCE revision sessions for the last four years (with the exception of 2008), and is looking forward to now presenting the Accounting lecture as well.

Biology

Bree Pertzel is Head of Science at Sandringham College (senior campus) and has been teaching senior biology for five years.

Bree is also an exam assessor for both units 3 and 4 Biology and is one of the Yr 11/12 coordinators at the school for 2007. She has been involved in the VCE Revision lecture series at Monash Peninsula for two years and also presents revision classes at Monash Caulfield. Bree's lecture style and content is well received by attendees and her lectures are always a sell-out. Be Quick!

Business Management

Blair Cooper has been teaching Business Management since 2003. He is currently Head of Year 12 at The Peninsula School and has over 15 years of commercial business experience.

Blair is also an exam assessor since 2004 and is a Presenter at the annual Victorian Commercial Teachers Association conference, COMVIEW. Blair's lecture style and content is well received by attendees and he receives exceptional feedback. He has been lecturing with us since the programs inception in 2004.

Chemistry

Julie Mattingley, Toorak College

Julie Mattingley has been teaching Chemistry for 10 years.  She previously held the position of Head of Science at Mater Christi College and is currently the Head of Science at Toorak College in Mt. Eliza. Julie holds a Bachelor of Science and Graduate Diploma of Education from Monash University as well as a Postgraduate Diploma in Educational Studies from Melbourne University.  She is currently studying for her Masters in Education.

Language Analysis and Writing in Context & English Text: Look Both Ways

David White has over 30 years experience teaching VCE (HSC) English and Literature. For 14 years he was Head of English at Parkdale SC and wrote, with his wife, many film study guides for A.T.O.M. He currently teaches VCE English at a private tutoring college and has an education consultancy business.

He has been presenting at Monash for the VCE revision sessions for the last three years and has proved to be popular with students.

Maths Methods & Maths Methods CAS Extension

Maree Granger has over 20 years experience teaching and was the Year 12 Coordinator at Ringwood Secondary College before taking up her role with Frankston High School in 1994. Maree currently teaches Maths Methods and Specialist Maths having also held the Maths Coordinator role. She is a reviewer for trial exams for MAV and also provides solutions to VCAA examinations for them. Maree co-edited the current edition of the MAV Specialist Mathematics WERMS book.

She has been presenting at Monash for the VCE revision sessions for the last three years and has proved very popular with students.

Further Maths (Core and modules)

Luke Kerr has been teaching Further Maths for the last 4 years and has taught General Maths for 8 years. He is the Team Leader for Further Maths at Frankston High School where he also teaches Outdoor Education at Middle School level. Luke delivered Further Maths lectures in 2007 and received excellent feedback from students.

Legal Studies

Simon has taught Legal Studies for many years and is currently a member of the VCE Legal Studies Review Panel - reviewing the VCE legal Studies course for 2011 and beyond. He is currently involved in writing an update of the Jacaranda Legal Studies textbook - StudyOn.

He has been presenting the Legal Studies lecture at Monash for the VCE revision sessions for the last four years, with the exception of 2008, and is looking forward to renewing his association with this Peninsula Education Precinct initiative.

Physics

Kalyan Chand has been a senior physics teacher for the past 20 years. He is currently teaching Year 12 physics at Kambrya College where he is also the science coordinator. Kalyan has been a VCE Physics Assessor for past seven years. This is Kalyan’s second year presenting the Physics VCE Revision lecture at Peninsula. Kalyan has proved very popular with the students and has received excellent reviews.

Psychology

Travis Smith has been teaching VCE Psychology for many years. He is the Assistant Principal at Frankston High School as well as teaching Year 12 Psychology. He lectures at Monash University in the Education Faculty training the Psychology teachers of the future.

Travis has conducted the Psychology revision lecture at Monash University Peninsula Campus since their inception four years ago and constantly receives excellent feedback from students who attend his sessions year after year. His session is very popular. Be Quick!

Past participant says: "Our lecturer has a natural talent for lecturing, made our lesson less boring and kept me actively engaged. Used chunking to help up remember eg 'mum having a senior moment' as old people having loss of confidence = the apparent memory decline."

Health and Human Development

Jill Tatterson comes with many many years of experience teaching Health and Human Development. She is a member of Health and Human Development VCE Review Panel for the VCAA and currently teaches at Bayswater Secondary College.

She has been with the Peninsula Education Precinct Revision Lectures since their inception in 2004. Feedback from student surveys has always been excellent and her lectures prove very popular.

History Revolutions

Rowly Richardson has been teaching History Revolutions for four years and also teaches International Studies. Teaching at Frankston High School, he also holds the role of Reporting and Assessment Coordinator. As well as his work as a teacher he has also had 13 years working as a political advisor. This combination of experience means Rowly brings to his teaching both an understanding of the theoretical rules of political history as well as their practical application. His approach to exam preparation is to view it as an opportunity to show the examiner how hard you have worked for the year rather than something to be feared.

Rowly presented our first History Revolutions lecture in 2007 and received very good feedback from student surveys.

English Text: The Kite Runner

Sandra Scheiderman has been teaching for over 20 years. Her speciality areas are VCE English as well as Australian and Revolutions History. She was English Coordinator at John Paul College before moving to her current position at Star of the Sea in Gardenvale. Sandra has tutored VCE English privately for over 10 years and is also engaged by a private senior tuition school where she conducts VCE revision lectures to over 400 students. Sandra is also an assessor for VCE Australian History.

Sandra's expertise in History also enables her to offer a thorough knowledge of the historical background to the text "The Kite Runner" -- the history of Afghanistan, the insurgents from Russia and how the Taliban took it over, all giving a more informed insight to the revision of the text.

Physical Education

Liza Saunders has presented the Physical Education lecture with us for the last three years and has received excellent student feedback in each of her presentations.  Liza has taught VCE Physical Education for four years at Mount Erin College in Frankston and is now teaching at Carwatha College where she is also Senior School Coordinator.
